The law introducing a new Luxembourg alternative fund structure, the Reserved Alternative Investment Fund (RAIF), has been approved by the Luxembourg Parliament and will come into force three days after publication in Luxembourg’s Official Gazette Mémorial.

Alternative asset manager Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors has named Mike Levitt as the firm’s new chief executive officer.
The firm has also promoted Bob Sinnott, previously president and CEO, to be co-chairman of Kayne alongside founder Ric Kayne. Sinnott will continue to chair Kayne’s energy strategies. Levitt (pictured) will join Sinnott and Kayne as part of the firm’s executive management team.
Formerly, Levitt was vice chairman of Apollo Credit Management within Apollo Capital Management. In addition, Levitt founded and was CEO of Stone Tower, a credit-focused alternative investment management firm, which was subsequently acquired by Apollo.

Blackstone has appointed Jim Breyer, founder and chief executive of global venture capital and private equity investor Breyer Capital, to its board of directors.
Over the course of his career, Breyer has been an investor in over 30 consumer internet, media, and technology companies that have completed successful public offerings or mergers.

Advisers consider alternative investments key to growing their high-net-worth (HNW) business, but a lack of access to quality products stands in the way of larger allocations to the asset class, according to a financial adviser survey commissioned by Artivest.
The majority of financial advisers surveyed (54 per cent) believe that offering alternatives is important to retaining and attracting HNW investors, yet lack of access to quality funds was the number one reason (26 per cent) why advisers believe their adoption of alternatives is lower than that of institutions.

CVC Capital Partners has appointed Cathrin Petty as a partner and head of European healthcare.
Petty will be based in CVC’s London office.
Petty joins CVC from JP Morgan, where she was head of healthcare in EMEA. Prior to this, she was a special partner at Vitruvian Partners and a partner at Apax Partners on their healthcare/life sciences team.
Petty has worked on numerous healthcare transactions, including the IPO of Spire Hospitals Plc, LEO Pharma’s acquisition of Astellas Derm, Roche’s acquisition of Intermune and the sales of LGC to KKR and Atos Medical to PAI Partners.

Private equity fund manager and enterprise investment scheme (EIS) specialist Calculus Capital has made a GBP2.5 million investment in diagnostics company Epistem via its EIS fund and venture capital trust (VCT) investment vehicles.
Calculus is the cornerstone investor in a GBP6.5 million equity fundraising undertaken by Epistem.
Epistem, an AIM-listed molecular diagnostics and biotechnology company, will use the investment to fund its next stage of growth, which includes developing low-cost, rapid and simple to use tests for diagnosing infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (TB), Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B and HIV via its Genedrive platform.

Private equity firms Maven Capital Partners and YFM Equity Partners have backed the MBO of Indigo Telecom Group, acquiring the business from parent TTG-Global.
Maven and YFM have invested in partnership to provide a GBP12 million funding package, including additional funds to support a buy and build strategy to scale and diversify the Indigo group.

PEF Services, a fund administrator for private capital funds, has appointed Hank Boggio as chief revenue officer.
Boggio will oversee global strategy for PEF’s sales, marketing, account management and business development efforts to drive its revenue streams and identify new opportunities for growth.
Boggio will begin his new duties on 18 July and will report to PEF co-founder and CEO Anne Anquillare.
