The initial public offering (IPO) of the First Trust New Opportunities MLP & Energy Fund, a closed-end fund, has raised approximately USD440m in its common share offering.
Should the underwriters exercise the overallotment option in full, the fund will have raised approximately USD503m.
The fund’s investment objective is to seek a high level of total return with an emphasis on current distributions paid to common shareholders. The fund is expected to commence trading on 27 March 2014 on the NYSE under the ticker symbol “FPL.”
First Trust is the fund’s investment adviser and is responsible for supervising the fund’s
FTBpro, the largest fan-generated media platform in online football, has closed a USD18m investment, bringing its total funding since inception to USD24m.
The company plans to use proceeds to further boost its global expansion, enhance strategic partnerships and enrich its mobile and video product offerings.
The fundraising round involved FTBpro’s existing investors, Battery Ventures and Gemini Israel Ventures, as well as new investment from London-based Dawn Capital and a major Asia-based media investor.

Cathay Capital is to launch a new investment vehicle aimed at promoting growth and international development of French, Chinese and European companies in the mid-cap segment – the Sino French (Midcap) Fund.
This new fund marks a new step in the cooperation between France and China for private equity investment.
It follows and builds on the success of the Sino French Fund for SMEs, created by Bpifrance and China Development Bank in September 2012 and managed by Cathay Capital.

Context Asset Management has launched the Context Alternative Strategies Fund (CALTX), a multi-manager, multi-strategy fund that seeks to deliver capital appreciation by emphasising absolute returns and low correlation to the broader US equity and bond markets.
The Context Alternative Strategies Fund pursues its objective by using various investment strategies and allocating its assets among multiple sub-advisors who employ a variety of investment strategies in pursuit of attractive returns consistent with capital appreciation.
Context selects and oversees the sub-advisors who each manage separate segments of the fund’s portfolio using distinct investment styles.

As companies stay private longer, significant portions of their value appreciation occur during the private stage of their development. The SharesPost 100 Fund targets investments in maturing companies with solid growth records that are expected to enter the public markets within two to three years.

New data on the European venture capital (VC) sector points to a healthy environment for both investment and return opportunities in European high-growth technology star-up businesses.
Speaking at Ariadne Capital’s 12th Entrepreneur Country (EC) Forum, Matthias Ummenhofer, head of VC at the European Investment Fund (EIF), shared EIF's 2013 data announcing over EUR4bn of commitments across 248 European VC funds and business angels over the course of last year, up from EUR3.4bn in 2012.
