A team of academics have called on the private equity industry to be more transparent after their study found that a large section of it increases unemployment while actually worsening the performance of the companies taken over. Lars Nyberg, former president and chief executive officer of Telia Sonera, has been appointed as board member of Segulah Advisor.   Nyberg (pictured) is also chairman of DataCard and Autoliv.   Between 1995 and 2003, Nyberg was chairman and chief executive of NCR Corp, where he continued as chairman until 2005.   Previously, Nyberg held several managerial positions in Philips and was a member of Philips Group Management Committee.

Riverstone Holdings, an energy and power investment firm, has closed its latest conventional energy private equity fund, Riverstone Global Energy and Power Fund V, with total commitments of USD7.7bn.   The fund’s original target was USD6bn.   Fund V will pursue the same investment strategy that Riverstone was founded on 13 years ago and has followed ever since—building energy and power businesses around the world with exceptional management teams.
