Tremor Media, a video monetisation and advertising company, has raised USD40m in funding led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson Growth Fund with participation from DFJ and Triangle Peak Partners. Existing investors including Canaan Partners, Meritech Capital Partners and SAP Ventures also participated significantly in this financing. Climate Change Capital Private Equity, a EUR200m fund dedicated to investments in clean technology companies, has led a EUR9.1m funding round in Nualight, a manufacturer of LED lighting solutions to the retail sector. Nualight is based in Cork, Ireland. Kleinwort Benson, the UK-based investment management and financial services group that is one of the largest fund administrators in the Channel Islands, will have its banking licence withdrawn by the Jersey Financial Services Commission when the firm is acquired by Belgian investment firm RHJ International from Germany’s Commerzbank. In quarter one 2010 the total value of private equity investments in support services amounted to GBP1.1bn, equal to the total value recorded in the whole of 2009, according to a Grant Thornton report. Zong, a mobile payment service used by online gaming and social networking websites, has completed a USD15m round of funding led by Matrix Partners. Formerly a division of Echovox, Zong is now a standalone company headquartered in Palo Alto. Stability is returning to the European mergers and acquisitions market in 2010, according to a study by CMS. In the first European study to look at the M&A market before and after the collapse of Lehman Brothers, CMS draws on data from more than 750 M&A transactions in Europe. The value of European private equity deals in the first quarter of 2010 reached EUR10.5bn, a modest rise of 2.6 per cent from EUR10.3bn in the last quarter of 2009, but significantly above the EUR4bn of deals recorded in the Q1 2009.
