BGF has bolstered its presence in the North East with the appointment of John Healey as an investor. Healey joins BGF from business advisory firm, UNW, where he has spent the last eight years advising on a number of high-profile acquisition, disposal and fundraising transactions across the North East. Prior to this, he worked with the Coutts commercial banking team, before spending a decade at PwC specialising in corporate finance.  With an established network, Healey has a strong track record in the region and will utilise that experience and expertise to forge relationships with those regional businesses going for growth.
Scintil Photonics, a supplier of advanced silicon photonic integrated circuits with monolithically integrated lasers and optical amplifiers, has secured €13.5 million ($14.4m) in second round funding.  Robert Bosch Venture Capital (RBVC) led the round, with historic shareholders Supernova Invest, Innovacom and Bpifrance, through its Digital Venture fund, reinvesting to bring the company’s total funding to €17.5 million ($18.8m), to date.   Scintil Photonics’ optical communications aim to significantly enhance traditional high-speed system and chip interconnections. Platform.sh, a unified, secure, enterprise-grade platform for building, running and scaling web applications, has raised $140 million in a Series D funding led by Munich-based Digital+Partners, San Francisco-based Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital, and Paris-based Revaia.
UK-based healthtech company Psyomics has closed a £2.4 million funding round led by Parkwalk, a UK investor in the university spin-out sector.  Meltwind and other investors also participated, along with new investment from Newable Ventures. Psyomics was spun-out from the University of Cambridge with a mission to develop technology to support earlier and improved mental health diagnosis and treatment management. Blis is an audience-first platform that doesn’t rely on personal data. Keensight Capital, a private equity manager dedicated to pan-European Growth Buyout investments, has invested in Lisam Systems, a global provider of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) compliance management software solutions and services, with a local presence in over 20 countries. Headquartered in Belgium, Lisam Systems serves more than 2,000 clients operating across various industries worldwide, including chemicals, detergents, paints and coatings, industrial and specialty gases, and fragrances.   Lisam offers a wide range of mission-critical software solutions, including notably a software suite to author, manage, and distribute GHS[2]-compliant Safety Data Sheets for chemicals in 55+ languages. Echobot, a provider of European sales intelligence, and Leadfeeder, a best-in-class web visitor intelligence platform, are to merge, creating an AI-powered sales intelligence and go-to-market platform.   Great Hill Partners, a growth equity firm that invests in high-growth, disruptive companies, has invested €180 million to support the merger and help the newly formed company drive continued product innovation, scale go-to-market capabilities, and accelerate growth. GIC and APG will acquire a substantial stake in The Student Hotel (TSH) and commit to invest to fuel further expansion for the hybrid hospitality leader, subject to customary regulatory approvals.  The transaction values TSH, including assets currently under development, at €2.1 billion. The deal sees APG and founder Charlie MacGregor increase their current stake in TSH. APG first invested in TSH in 2015. Sonrai Analytics, an emerging global innovator in AI Cloud Data Analytics, has raised a ‘seed plus’ funding round of £2.175 million to accelerate the global adoption of its technology.  The investment will help Sonrai reach more companies globally to translate precision medicine’s complex multi-omics data into real insights leading to better-personalised treatments for patients.   The funding round was led by venture capital firm Forward Partners. Existing institutional investors Techstart Ventures, Co-Fund NI (managed by Clarendon Fund Managers), QUBIS, and Angel Investors also participated in the round.
