Orrick grows Italian M&A practice

Orrick has appointed Gabriel Monzon-Cortarelli as a partner in its M&A and private equity practice, resident in Milan.

He will also spend significant time in Orrick’s New York office.
Monzon-Cortarell is the sixth partner to join Orrick’s European M&A practice in the past year. He joins the firm from Seyfarth Shaw where he led the Italian desk.
At Orrick, Monzon-Cortarell will lead a team of Orrick bilingual US and Italian lawyers —based in the firm’s Milan office and offices throughout the US — focused on assisting Italian businesses looking to enter or expand their presence in the US and Latin American markets and access the US public and private capital markets. The team will also collaborate with Orrick’s transactional, litigation and compliance practices to guide Italian clients in their US and Latin American activities.
Monzon-Cortarell advises public and private companies on cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures and strategic alliances in the US, Europe and Latin America. He also counsels on international capital market offerings for European and Latin American issuers and underwriters.
Over the years, Monzon-Cortarell has developed deep experience advising US subsidiaries and affiliates of Italian companies doing business in the US and Latin America on a broad range of corporate legal issues, serving as their primary outside US counsel. His clients include Italian and international multinational corporations in the technology, energy & infrastructure, transportation and logistics, defence, food & beverage and consumer retail sectors, as well as global financial institutions.
“Orrick’s deep commitment to Italy, its focus on the technology, energy & infrastructure and finance sectors, and the growth of its global platform were all very attractive to me,” says Monzon-Cortarell. “I am especially excited to collaborate with the firm’s dynamic and forward-looking Italian team.”
“As we continue to deepen our focus on cross-border work in Italy, we are delighted to add a practitioner with Gabriel’s global perspective and experience to our team,” says Patrizio Messina, Orrick’s managing partner for Europe.
Monzon-Cortarell is very active in the Italian-American community in New York and Milan. He served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce in New York founded in 1887.
Monzon-Cortarell currently serves as a member of New York’s Gruppo Esponenti Italiani, an organisation of Italian corporate executives and professionals in the US, and is a trustee of La Scuola G Marconi of New York, founded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet the academic needs of Italians living in the New York City area.
