Orrick hires M&A ‘rising star’ in Paris

Legal firm Orrick has appointed French M&A and private equity advisor Olivier Jouffroy as a partner, based in Paris. Jouffroy joins Orrick from Clifford Chance.“Olivier is an up-and-coming M&A talent. His practice and experience are an excellent match for our focus in Paris and globally on serving the tech and innovation, energy and infrastructure, and finance sectors,” says Patrick Tardivy, co-head of Orrick’s Paris office.

Jouffroy advises on domestic and cross-border M&A transactions in the energy, infrastructure, finance, and real estate sectors. He acts for listed companies and financial institutions on both public and private M&A matters, corporate reorganisations and securities law issues. In addition, Jouffroy advises start-ups on financing rounds, as well as family offices on investment matters. He is recognised as a ‘Rising Star’ for his M&A work by Legal 500 EMEA 2020.

Most recently, Jouffroy has advised French utility company Engie on the USD2 billion sale of its upstream liquefied natural gas business to Total, global infrastructure investor and fund manager DIF on the sale of its stakes in 29 solar assets in France to Tenergie, and real estate investment company Gecina on the sale of a hotel portfolio to Angelo Gordon and Raise Reim.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to work alongside Patrick and the rest of the Paris team to further enhance Orrick’s M&A and private equity capabilities across Europe,” says Jouffroy.

Orrick ranks third in Europe and fourth globally for M&A volume in 2019, according to Bloomberg. The firm advised on over 300 M&A deals valued at USD30 billion last year.

Jouffroy is the latest addition to Orrick’s global M&A and private equity team which has grown over the last two years across its European and US offices. Recent hires include James Connor from Simpson Thacher, Daniel Wayte from Milbank and Ed Lukins from Cooley in London; Christine Kaniak from Kirkland & Ellis in Munich; and Matthew Gemello from Baker & McKenzie in Silicon Valley. Additionally, the firm promoted three lawyers in Paris to partner in January: Geoffroy Berthon, Nadège Owen and Olivier Vuillod.
