Phoenix Fund Services, a provider of offshore and onshore traditional and alternative fund administration services with offices in the UK and Ireland, has recruited Gerard Quirke as a director from Hermes Pensions Management, where he was chief operating officer and deputy chief executive.
During four years with Hermes, Quirke was responsible for the finance, IT, operations, risk and legal departments. He previously spent four years with Morley Fund Management, which he joined in 1999 as managing director of retail for the UK, subsequently becoming responsible for all European distribution.
During a 27-year career in the financial services industry, Quirke also worked for Amvescap Asset Management as managing director of global services and for Crédit Commercial de France. He began his career as an accountant with Ernst & Whinney before moving to County NatWest as an assistant finance director.
‘I have followed the development of Phoenix since it started 10 years ago and believe that what it has to offer is unique,’ Quirke says. ‘Phoenix provides a truly integrated front-, middle- and back-office solution which sets it apart from its competitors.’
Steve King, founder and managing director of Phoenix’s UK operation, adds: ‘Having worked with Gerard at Amvescap I have been keen to get him involved at Phoenix for quite some time. Gerard and I have always shared views on the industry and where we believe the TPA market to be situated.’
Gavin Gray, managing director of the group’s Dublin-based offshore operations, says: ‘To have hired an investment professional of Gerard’s calibre and experience is a great coup for Phoenix, and one which can only improve the service we can offer to our clients. His career in the investment management industry has given him experience in all areas, from accounting to investment management and all points in between.’
Established in 1998, Phoenix Fund Services provides investment managers with services ranging from investment operations outsourcing to administration of onshore and offshore funds. Its offshore and hedge fund administration was launched in Dublin in 2004 and a third arm of the business was set up in 2007 to cater to UK collective investment schemes.
