Pictet Alternative Advisors launches environmental technology fund

Pictet Alternative Advisors, the Pictet Group’s alternative investment business, has launched the Pictet Private Assets SICAV – Environment Co-Investment Fund I ELTIF, which is aiming to broaden investor access to environmental technology investments across private markets.

According to a press release, the fund will target 20-25 investments across greenhouse gas reduction; sustainable consumer; pollution control; the circular economy; and enabling technology as part of a strategy implementing the Planetary Boundaries scientific framework.

The fund, classified as an article 8 fund under Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation, will be led by Pierre Stadler, Head of Thematics PE, and Nicolas Thomas, Thematics Principal, following a co-investment approach by taking minority positions alongside PE firms globally. The minimum subscription is €10,000 for the retail share class.

According to global consultancy Roland Berger’s Greentech Atlas database as of March 2023, the current penetration rate of environmental technologies is low but expected to grow exponentially with a projected market size of USD 12tn by 2030.

In a statement, Stadler said: “Through this new fund, investors have access to a portfolio of rigorously selected PE co-investments. With so much innovation in private companies, and specifically those focused on addressing environmental challenges, we see significant value being created in this theme.”

Thomas added: “As the transition to a more sustainable world constitutes one of the greatest challenges societies have ever faced, companies providing environmental solutions could generate significant financial returns and above-average long-term growth.”

Pictet currently operates 20 thematic strategies including 8 environment strategies.
