Private market returns positive in Q1 after three quarters of negative performance

Private markets returns stabilised above zero at 1.1% in the first quarter of 2023 after three consecutive quarters of negative performance beginning in Q1 2022, according to the latest eFront Insight Quarterly Performance Benchmark report.

Private markets returns stabilised above zero at 1.1% in the first quarter of 2023 after three consecutive quarters of negative performance beginning in Q1 2022, according to the latest eFront Insight Quarterly Performance Benchmark report.

Buyout funds continued with a positive performance of 2.1% in Q1 2023, while VC funds continued with their downward trend, recording a return of -0.1%. Other strategies (which includes Funds of Funds, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Natural Resources) produced a combined return of 0.5% over the first quarter of 2023.

eFront said the performance marks a return to positive territory for most strategies, after a challenging 2022 during which the Russo-Ukrainian war, combined with macroeconomic headwinds and fears of recession around the globe, crimped investment returns.
