Italian fibre network operator Retelit is considering a potential sale of its data centre business in a deal that could value the unit at up to €700m, according to a report by Bloomberg citing people familiar with the matter.
The company, which is owned by private equity firm Asterion Industrial Partners, is said to be in the early stages of its assessment, with a formal process potentially launching next year. Any transaction would be aimed at reducing debt and crystallising value amid heightened investor interest in data centre assets driven by demand linked to cloud services, connectivity, and data volume.
Retelit reportedly said it has not launched a formal sale process and described data centres as central to its long-term strategy, noting a €370m investment programme currently under way. Asterion also said it has not initiated a sale of the assets.
Retelit operates fibre-optic networks and data centres across Italy for telecom operators, enterprises and cloud providers. Milan has emerged as a key hub for southern European data centre development, attracting global hyperscalers including Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Data4.
