Los Angeles-based Colony Capital has appointed Richard Nanula as a principal, reporting to chairman and chief executive Thomas Barrack.
Los Angeles-based Colony Capital has appointed Richard Nanula as a principal, reporting to chairman and chief executive Thomas Barrack. Nanula will take a senior role in all the firm’s activities worldwide, with a special focus on existing and future operating company transactions, and will be based in the firm’s Los Angeles headquarters.
Nanula, 47, was most recently executive vice-president and chief financial officer of Amgen. During his six-year tenure as a member of the company’s executive committee, he was responsible for finance, corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and internal and external relations, and oversaw a number of significant acquisitions and capital-raising exercises.
Previously Nanula was president and chief operating officer of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, based in New York. Between 1986 and 1998, he held a variety of increasingly senior executive positions at Walt Disney, culminating in the role of senior executive vice-president and chief financial officer, and was also president of Disney Stores Worldwide. He has served on the board of directors at Starwood and also at Boeing and Expedia.
