The Riverside Company has promoted Juan Barnechea, the leader of its Origination team in Europe, to Managing Director.
Barnechea leads the deal sourcing efforts for Riverside, which was recently recognised as the world’s most active private equity firm. The work of the firm’s global Origination team is the driving force behind much of that activity.
“Juan has done an outstanding job since joining us in 2008,” said Riverside Chief Operating Officer Pam Hendrickson, who oversees the global Origination team as part of her duties. “Under Juan’s leadership of the team, Riverside has continued to see increasing quantities of high-quality deal flow; which has increased our capital at work and enhanced the calibre and performance of our portfolio.”
Based in Riverside’s Madrid office, Barnechea began with the firm as head of its Iberian origination efforts before becoming Director for all of Europe in 2010. During his time with Riverside, he has helped make Riverside one of the most successful small-market private equity investors in Europe.
Prior to joining Riverside in 2008, Barnechea was Director and Head of Corporate Markets for Lloyds TSB Bank in Spain, where he managed a team responsible for all corporate banking and structured finance activities. He has additional experience in Corporate Banking with Lloyds TSB in the UK, Brazil and Argentina.
Riverside invests in growing businesses with up to €200 million in equity value across Europe, and in North America and the Asia-Pacific region.
“We plan to be very active buyers and sellers this year,” said Barnechea. “We select our investments carefully, and I’m proud to be part of a global team dedicated to finding and growing remarkable smaller companies.”
