Robert Morgan appointed chairman of Alcumus Group

Sovereign Capital, the UK private equity buy and build specialist, has appointed Robert Morgan as non-executive chairman of portfolio company Alcumus, a compliance software and certification services company.

Morgan chairs a number of private equity backed businesses in the B2B services and healthcare sectors in the UK and US, which include SME services, oil & gas sustainability, certification, compliance and learning & development.

He has worked in the legal and criminal justice system in outsourcing and previously he was executive director of Hays, a FTSE 100 services group.

Alcumus has expanded considerably since Sovereign’s investment began in 2009. Sovereign initially invested in Sypol, which provides health, safety and environmental risk management services, and subsequently completed the bolt-on transactions of Info Exchange, a provider of compliance information management solutions, and ISOQAR, an independent certification body in the UK, to form Alcumus Group.  In 2009, Drury PSM, an HR, employment law and health & safety outsourcing company, joined the group.

Morgan says: “Having seen at first hand the quality of Alcumus’ service offering, I am excited by the growth potential of the group.  I look forward to supporting the management team to capitalise on the opportunities for further expansion so we can best meet the needs of our clients.”

Martin Smith, Alcumus CEO, says: “We’re delighted to welcome Robert to Alcumus. He has significant experience of working with rapidly growing support services companies and driving their expansion both in the UK and overseas.   We have ambitious plans for 2014 and Robert’s knowledge and expertise will be invaluable in helping us achieve these goals.”

Dyson Bogg, director at Sovereign Capital, says: “The appointment of Robert Morgan further strengthens the team at Alcumus and continues Sovereign’s strong track record of working with the highest calibre management and non-executives.”
