Albion Ventures has hired Dr Christoph Ruedig to work alongside Dr Andrew Elder in growing its allocation and managing its investments in the healthcare sector.
The venture capital trust (VCT) provider announced earlier this year that it intends to increase its weightings in healthcare across all portfolios from 13% to 25%. The portfolios are presently weighted at approximately 17%.
Christoph brings to Albion a wealth of medical experience, having worked in the healthcare sector for nine years. After qualifying as a doctor in 2002, he worked in Munich University Hospital as a radiologist before working in the healthcare sides of Bain & Co, 3i Group Plc and General Electric. He attained his MBA from INSEAD in 2005 having previously studied medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians University and is fluent in three languages.
Patrick Reeve, managing partner Albion Ventures, says: "The healthcare sector offers a wide range of risk from asset backed infrastructure to pre-revenue technology. The fundamentals are presently very attractive to long-term investors like Albion; British research and development is at the forefront of global innovations, there will be increased demand for healthcare from Britain’s ageing population, and with public finances under pressure the Government will look increasingly to the private sector to plug gaps in its own services.
“Albion will be increasing its portfolio weightings in healthcare over the next two years. Christoph’s appointment expands our expertise in this area. Christoph and Andrew (Elder) have the expertise, contacts and knowledge required to identify attractive healthcare investment opportunities and their deep knowledge of this sector provides the management teams of our investee companies with access to invaluable guidance and advice.”
