Sean E Murphy joins Evercore Partners as a senior advisor

Sean E Murphy has joined Evercore Partners’ Investment Banking business as a Senior Advisor. Murphy, who will be based in Chicago, will focus on advising clients in the health care industry.

Murphy was most recently a Corporate Vice President and Head of Business Development and Mergers and Acquisitions at Abbott Laboratories, Inc. His career at Abbott spanned three decades, including operations management, such as running the vascular business after the acquisition of Perclose, and leading Abbott’s external development effort for ten years. In that capacity, Murphy led over USD30 billion in transactions across the pharmaceutical, medical technology, diagnostics, and nutrition markets, including the more recent acquisitions of Solvay Pharma, American Medical Optics, and Guidant’s vascular business.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome Sean to Evercore, adding further depth to our Health Care practice," says Roger Altman, Evercore Chairman. "In an environment where our health care clients are affected by reform and massive budgetary constraints in developed economies, and by vast social transformation in emerging markets, Sean brings strategic insights which are invaluable."

"In many years of working with investment banks, I have come to appreciate the value of thoughtful guidance that investment banking advisors can provide. In this next phase of my career, I am delighted to be associated with a firm that puts intellectual rigour and independence first," says Murphy.

"Over the years, I have had the privilege of observing the series of external development moves made by Abbott. It’s a company that exemplifies how strong operational management and astute deal making can support a clear strategy. Sean was central to that effort, and is one of the most talented M&A professionals in the corporate world," says Francois Maisonrouge, Senior Managing Director and head of Evercore’s Health Care Group.

Murphy will work with Evercore’s health care professionals worldwide. He will concentrate on the biopharmaceutical, medical technology and diagnostics sectors.
