Sheryl Schwartz has joined Caspian Private Equity as managing director, investments and has also been appointed to Caspian’s investment and executive committees.
As part of Caspian’s investment team, she will lead investments in primary and secondary funds.

Prior to joining Caspian, Schwartz (pictured) was a managing director at Perseus Finance in New York from 2010 to April 2013, where she was one of the partners responsible for fundraising, sourcing, evaluating and making direct mezzanine and structured equity investments in connection with leveraged buyouts, recapitalisations, and growth financings in lower middle market companies.
Prior to Perseus Finance, Schwartz had a long career at Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA-CREF) from 1988 to 2010, where she spent half of her career investing in alternative investments and half investing in fixed income investments. From 1997 to 2010, she was a managing director and portfolio manager of TIAA’s alternative investment team.
David Marcus, who has served Caspian as vice president from March 2011, has been promoted to director. Marcus is a member of Caspian’s investment team and a member of Caspian’s executive committee. Marcus’s prior experience includes private equity positions at Continental Entertainment Capital, Drum Capital Management and Bassini Playfair + Associates from 1999 to 2010.
Anatoli Gavrilov joined Caspian’s investment team as associate on 1 March. Gavrilov’s prior experience includes private equity analyst positions at Roc Resources, Oppenheimer and The Burgiss Group from 2009 to 2013.
