Stroock adds M&A and private equity partner to growing Corporate Group

Peter J Rooney, a seasoned M&A and private equity lawyer with nearly 30 years of experience, has joined Stroock’s national Corporate Group as a partner in the New York Office.

Rooney joins Stroock from Morrison & Foerster, where he was a partner.
Rooney’s practice centres on representation of US and multinational corporations, private equity firms and financial institutions in connection with leveraged buyouts, mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and related financings.
“Pete is an incredible and dynamic addition to our firm,” says Jeff Keitelman, the firm’s co-managing partner. “In addition to his decades of experience representing clients in their critical business transactions, Pete brings an innate capacity for problem solving and strategic insight that will help clients across industries – plus he’s a terrific guy.”
Over the course of his career, Rooney has represented international companies and investment funds, including sovereign wealth funds from over 20 countries, investing into the United States. In addition, Rooney has also represented several financial services firms, including broker-dealers, securities exchanges, and trading venues with an emphasis on the convergence of technology and financial services.
“Stroock has a remarkable reputation for client service excellence and a collaborative culture, and I’m thrilled to be joining the firm,” says Rooney. “I’ve admired their presence in the mid-market private equity and mergers and acquisitions space for a long time and look forward to drawing on my own capabilities to further the firm’s success in the market.”
“I’ve known Pete for 25 years and can confidently attest to his skill set, excellent judgment and seamless alignment with our firm’s culture,” says Brett Lawrence, a partner in the firm’s Financial Restructuring and Corporate Groups. “With his decades of experience, and international acumen, we’re confident that Pete will not only expand our practice but also play a key leadership role in mentoring our group’s developing talent.”
