Swedish investment giant EQT AB has announced an upper limit of $14.5bn for its latest Asia-focused fund, according to a statement released late on Sunday. The fund, known as BPEA Private Equity Fund IX, is managed by EQT Private Capital Asia.
In August, EQT had set a fundraising target of $12.5bn for the fund. The new cap indicates strong interest despite global challenges impacting private equity investments. However, EQT clarified that the final fund size will depend on the outcome of the ongoing fundraising process.
The fundraising comes as global and regional investors are eyeing growth opportunities in Asia, a region with significant potential despite economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, which have contributed to a slowdown in private equity fundraising globally.
EQT’s move to raise one of the largest Asia-focused funds aligns with its broader strategy to tap into emerging markets.
