Trump nominates Cerberus co-leader as Deputy Secretary of Defense

President-elect Donald Trump intends to nominate billionaire investor Stephen Feinberg, co-leader of Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity firm with investments in defence contractors, for the role of Deputy Secretary of Defense, according to a report by Reuters.

Feinberg, who served on an intelligence advisory board during Trump’s 2017-2021 presidency, would be the second-in-command at the Pentagon under Trump’s nominee for Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, a former Fox News host. Hegseth has faced scrutiny over allegations of alcohol abuse and sexual misconduct, though he has denied the accusations.

In addition, Trump selected Elbridge Colby to be nominated for the position of Undersecretary of Defense for policy, the third-highest role at the Pentagon. Colby, a well-known China hawk, previously served as a senior official at the Pentagon during Trump’s first term.
