Tsai Capital Corporation, a long/short global equity manager, has launched Tsai Ventures, the seed and early stage venture capital arm of the firm.
"We look for hungry entrepreneurs with disruptive ideas and a big market opportunity," says Christopher Tsai (pictured), president and chief investment officer of Tsai Capital Corporation. "Having invested with a long-term outlook for 16+ years in publicly traded companies, our goal is to leverage that experience in order to identify the most promising new ventures with significant upside potential."
Tsai, along with Tsai Capital advisory committee member Justin D Soffer, will primarily focus on investment opportunities in finance, media and travel. Additionally, they will use their network to generate and foster relationships for entrepreneurs.
"Unlike many other venture capital businesses, Tsai Ventures isn't going to invest in hundreds of deals just to have one or two winners," says Soffer.
"Even if it means making fewer investments, we will opt for quality and conviction over the pressure to distribute capital," adds Tsai.
For the time being, Tsai Ventures will only deploy the proprietary capital of Tsai Capital Corporation. Interested investors can contact Tsai Capital to be added to a wait list for future co-investment opportunities.
