Boutique institutional asset manager Unigestion has invested in the Armstrong South East Asia Clean Energy Fund which invests in small scale renewable energy and resource efficiency projects in South East Asia.
The investment, through the Unigestion-Ethos Environmental Sustainability Fund, will provide investors with exposure to opportunities in the clean energy sector in South East Asia’s emerging markets.
This is the seventh investment made by the Unigestion-Ethos Environmental Sustainability Fund, and comes shortly after the fund received its share of proceeds from the initial public offering of SolarCity, a US provider of clean energy services, by the underlying fund, Silver Lake Kraftwerk.
Hanspeter Bader, head of private equity at Unigestion, says: “Ongoing social and political demand has led to significant growth in the environmental sustainability sector, with new companies and technologies evolving to deliver alternative energy sources and manage existing resources and pollution control in more efficient ways. Many of these will benefit from private equity funding and create exceptional long term strategic opportunities for investors. We continue to see superior potential in the space and expect the environmental sustainability sector to be a major driver of global economic growth over the next decade.”
