Walt Doyle joins Highland Capital Partners as venture partner

Venture capital firm Highland Capital Partners has appointed consumer media and technology expert Walt Doyle as a venture partner in the firm’s Cambridge, Massachusetts office.

A veteran of both the Bay Area and Boston entrepreneurial ecosystems, Doyle has built companies at the epicentre of mobile, location and payments.

Most recently, Doyle was the general manager of PayPal Media where he managed the product, sales, and operations in building its omni-channel commerce strategy. He joined PayPal through its acquisition of WHERE, a local discovery service and mobile advertising network. Doyle served as CEO of WHERE from 2005 through its acquisition, growing the company from 10 to 140 employees and more than USD40m in revenue.

"Walt is an accomplished CEO with experience and success in building a company of consequence," says Bob Davis, general partner with Highland. "As a trusted advisor and mentor, Walt has developed an exceptional network of entrepreneurs and angels in the Boston area. He has his finger on the pulse of great entrepreneurs and the companies that are helping to define the enormous opportunities consumers are looking to embrace."

"I am thrilled to be working with Highland," says Doyle. "They are a respected advocate of the first-time CEO with the knowledge and expertise to be an early strategic investor and the conviction to remain a valued partner through the later stages of critical company development."

Prior to joining WHERE, Doyle has worked in senior roles with numerous consumer media and technology companies including MapQuest, DialPad, Net2Phone and GameSpot.
