Cardano has appointed Richard Urban and Pushkin Singh Akhawat to its London-based investment management team.

Cardano has appointed Richard Urban and Pushkin Singh Akhawat to its London-based investment management team.

Urban will focus on researching and selecting property investments for Cardano’s clients. Akhawat will research private equity and property opportunities.

Keith Guthrie, head of investment management at Cardano UK, says: ‘As part of our Solvency Management approach we have a highly diversified range of investments, including private equity and property. At present there are some great opportunities in these asset classes, but they are usually not in the traditional areas used by pension funds. We therefore need people who understand these markets and less traditional areas in depth. Richard is a good example of this, having worked in property finance, loan securitisation and real estate investment trusts, as well as being a chartered surveyor.’

Prior to joining Cardano Urban was at CB Richard Ellis in their real estate finance team. Before that he worked for Moody’s, the credit rating agency, where he underwrote loans backed by over GBP20bn of property. He is also a qualified chartered surveyor, having worked at GVA Grimley and Segro, one of the world’s largest property investment companies.

Akhawat joins from Lehman Brothers where he was a private equity analyst and investment banking analyst in London and New York.

Cardano’s core service is solvency management, a type of fiduciary management that involves the management of pension fund assets against liabilities in a risk-controlled way. They offer clients integrated investment and risk services, providing both advice and full implementation.
