Senate Democrats target private equity in potential affordability probes

US Senate Democrats plan to investigate private equity’s impact on healthcare, housing and other essential costs if they regain control of the chamber in next week’s midterm elections, according to a report by Reuters.

Daniel Goshorn, chief investigative counsel for Democrats on the Senate Finance Committee, said lawmakers would examine how private equity financial structures affect living costs. Data centre taxation and concerns surrounding artificial intelligence would also feature among their priorities.

A Democratic victory would put current ranking member Ron Wyden in charge of the Finance Committee, giving the party greater scope to pursue investigations focused on affordability and corruption.

Speaking at an event hosted by law firm Mayer Brown, Goshorn said financial institutions could also receive information requests where the Trump administration fails to cooperate with congressional investigations.
