McCarthy Denning adds three to Banking and Finance practice
McCarthy Denning has added three new experienced financial services lawyers to its Banking and Finance Team – Partners, Henning von Sachsen-Altenburg and Richard Ambery, as well as Consulting Solicitor, Sarah Law.
Von Sachsen-Altenburg, dual-qualified in German and English law, is an expert advising clients on a range of investment banking solutions, particularly structured finance products. He possesses extensive financial services expertise, spanning general commercial and banking and regulatory law. Von Sachsen-Altenburg’s German law experience also covers litigation and corporate matters. He has several years of private practice experience in magic circle law firms and more than 11 years of in-house experience having worked in several first-tier investment banks. During this time, he held the position of Legal Director at Barclays Capital where he acquired widespread knowledge of legal and regulatory issues relating to real estate finance, a variety of derivative products, including structured notes, and prime brokerage.
Ambery is a specialist capital markets and derivatives lawyer, especially in the areas of asset backed securities and securitisation. Prior to joining McCarthy Denning, he developed his legal practice at firms such as Clifford Chance, Dechert and Mayer Brown. With over 20 years in private practice acting for the world's leading financial institutions, Ambery has worked on a range of significant finance transactions, from advising on the first commercial mortgage-backed securitisation in China, to advising on Formula 1’s whole business securitisation. Ambery has a truly international practice and regularly advises his clients on complex cross-border transactions, including several pan-European financings from bases in London, New York, Hong Kong, Dublin and Valletta.
Having worked as a lawyer in Allen & Overy’s Banking and Finance Team for almost 15 years, Law has developed a broad but specialist practice in this area of expertise. She has substantial experience advising on domestic and cross-border, secured and unsecured, syndicated and bilateral financings, with particular emphasis on sponsor driven leveraged and acquisition financing. In addition, Law also has in-house experience having completed a secondment at Goldman Sachs.
Warren Wooldridge, Co-founder and CEO of McCarthy Denning, says: We would like to extend a warm welcome to Henning, Richard and Sarah who are joining our well established Banking & Finance Team, enhancing the firm’s international financial services offering. Part of McCarthy Denning’s strategy, and our strength, is representing not only the established players, such as banks and large funds, but also advising smaller funds, family offices, SMEs and institutional investors.
Following our recent office move, we are pleased to have maintained the momentum in our ambitious recruitment drive in the City of London. McCarthy Denning continues to attract high-calibre lawyers to strengthen its position in the legal market.”
Partner and Head of Finance and Institutional Investing, Wayne James Rapozo, adds: “Our team brings clients blue chip credentials in an entrepreneurial setting so we can take a creative yet disciplined approach to negotiations and transaction structures. We have built up a strong team of Partners and Associates that covers a broad array of financial instruments, including LMA loan agreements, mezzanine facilities, high yield finance, structured finance, venture capital, derivatives and all things in between. We have a balanced practice in that we represent and are familiar with money centre banks and major financial institutions, but we take pride in representing companies, newly created funds, boutique investment banks and other important stakeholders in finance transactions.
“Clients recognise that we serve as an independent adviser and we provide a safe pair of hands that they can rely on to provide the high-quality legal advice they would expect from the large traditional law firms.”
