EQT in talks to acquire secondaries firms

EQT is in exploratory talks with major secondary-market players including Coller Capital, HarbourVest Partners and Pantheon as it seeks to significantly expand its footprint in the private markets secondaries arena, according to a report by Bloomberg. The firm is currently valued at $39.8bn.

The Stockholm-listed firm is evaluating an acquisition of a business specialising in the purchase of existing fund stakes or continuation vehicles — rather than deploying fresh capital — highlighting EQT’s shift from a primary buy-out focus towards liquidity-driven strategies. By some estimates, 2025 secondaries deal volume will hit $200bn.

The report adds that discussions are ongoing, with other targets also being studied, and no certainty that an agreement will be reached.
