Munich-based venture capital firm Target Partners has announced a seed investment in Scoreloop, a German start-up which has developed a software platform enabling mobile gamers to challenge each other.
With the growing availability of smart phones like the iPhone, mobile phones turn into entertainment devices, with gaming as a major focus. With Scoreloop users can now challenge each other.
‘Worldwide, people spend more money on gaming than on music. And in mobile gaming, the iPhone has totally redefined the segment, with most other manufacturers of mobile phones following with similar devices,’ says Olaf Jacobi, partner at Target Partners.
‘Mobile devices connect people, Scoreloop connects gamers on mobile devices. The market is huge and growing. Scoreloop’s technology is unique and creates a worldwide networking effect. The company’s founders, Marc Gumpinger, Dominik Westner and Christian van der Leeden, have already founded several companies and have many years of experience in mobile- and enterprise/server development. These are ideal prerequisites for a successful international start-up.’
Scoreloop offers a free license of its technology to partners like game developers, publishers or web portals. In addition, partners participate in the revenue streams from so-called ‘coins’, which are needed in order to challenge other gamers.
Scoreloop’s technology is currently available on the Apple iPhone, with other mobile device platforms planned for the near future.
