Within the overall picture Japan has been the most resilient with a 16.4 per cent decrease by number and 27.9 per cent decrease by value.
Within a sorry scene overall in Europe, Germany has had the most to be cheerful about with a 25.6 per cent decrease compared to the first four months of 2008 although value has tumbled by 48 per cent.
By contrast, the UK has seen a 46.7 per cent decrease from year on year, with value off 41 per cent.
Elsewhere India has seen not only a 46.9 per cent fall in volume but a significant 89 per cent drop by value.
Baird says some territories are displaying remarkable resilience but that across the piece the size of deals has fallen significantly.
