Mekong Brahmaputra Clean Development Fund makes initial investment

The Mekong Brahmaputra Clean Development Fund, managed by Dragon Capital Clean Development Ltd, has concluded its initial fund investment in the recent IPO of Electricite du Laos Genera

The Mekong Brahmaputra Clean Development Fund, managed by Dragon Capital Clean Development Ltd, has concluded its initial fund investment in the recent IPO of Electricite du Laos Generation (EdL Gen) on the newly launched Laos Securities Exchange.

The fund is the third largest foreign investor in EdL Gen, holding 6,285,200 shares, having made an investment of approximately USD3.36m.

EdL Gen joins Banque pour Le Commerce Exterieur Lao as the first stocks listed in the new securities exchange, a seminal development for the capital markets in Laos. As a significant energy exporter, Laos is critically important to the Mekong region’s energy equation and economic growth prospects.

At the end of the first week of trading on the securities exchange EdL Gen was up 30% at LAK5600.

The Mekong Brahmaputra Clean Development Fund established in 3rd Quarter 2010, invests in the renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation sectors in the Mekong (Thailand, Lao PDR, Cambodia and Vietnam) and Brahmaputra (Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) Regions.
