Sanlam Private Investments Holdings (SPIH) has rebranded the corporate finance, corporate broking, institutional stockbroking, institutional sales and research teams of the Merchant Securities business as Sanlam Securities UK Limited, following the acquisition of the company in 2012.
SPIH plans to expand and develop the established corporate finance and corporate broking operation which focuses on small and mid-cap companies. It will also be increasing visibility of its institutional sales and research offering and institutional stockbroking operations and extending execution services across global markets with a speciality in UK and South African stocks.
The private client stockbroking business of Merchant Securities will be rebranded Sanlam Private Investments (SPI).
The wealth management operations of the Merchant Securities business became Sanlam Private Investments Wealth Management in November 2012.
The businesses have recently relocated from their Gresham Street office to SPI’s head office at 10 King William Street, London.
Simon Clements, head of corporate finance at Sanlam Securities, says: “This is an exciting development for us, putting us in a strong position in our marketplace. With so much consolidation and a drop off in transactions and fund raising activity in recent years, we are one of the few businesses in this sector who have the backing of a strong international parent behind us. The additional resources of the Sanlam Group will bring extra credibility to our business, providing extra security to existing clients and enabling us to expand and strengthen our business.”
Craig Massey (pictured), chief executive of SPI, says: “We are delighted to be able to welcome the newly rebranded businesses on board and we are excited by the launch of the Sanlam Securities UK brand. We have already integrated the wealth management side of Merchant Securities and this completes the integration plans we envisaged when we acquired the businesses in 2012.
“We also have ambitious plans for Sanlam Private Investments, aiming to treble assets under management over the next five years. Sanlam Securities UK will form an important part of this wider vision, as it complements our existing businesses providing greater synergies within the group. These changes now mean we can now offer a much broader range of services to Sanlam clients combined with the opportunity to invest on a global basis.”
