AlbaCore Capital Group has expanded into infrastructure debt with the hire of Viktor Kozel and three colleagues from UBS Asset Management, as private credit managers increasingly push into the sector, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Kozel joins as managing director and head of infrastructure debt, alongside team members Ciara Halleman, Thibault Pontaut and Margherita Mascia. The group will lead AlbaCore’s new strategy targeting opportunities in areas such as energy transition and digital infrastructure.
Private markets heavyweights including Blackstone, Brookfield and Ares have already grown active in infrastructure lending, attracted by the sector’s stable cashflows and defensive profile. AlbaCore’s move mirrors this trend and reflects the growing convergence between traditional direct lending and infra financing.
Rather than displacing banks, Kozel said AlbaCore expects to collaborate with them on deals. He also noted that recruiting banking talent remains a natural step as private credit builds out specialist teams.
