Moody’s Analytics and private markets technology provider Allvue Systems have launched a credit risk model designed to identify early signs of borrower distress in private credit portfolios, according to a report by Connect Money.
The Moody’s Analytics EDF-X Private Credit Model combines Moody’s credit analytics with historical borrower performance data supplied by Allvue, allowing lenders and investors to assess potential deterioration before borrowers miss payments or default.
The model monitors indicators including covenant waivers, loan amendments and payment-in-kind (PIK) arrangements, which can signal financial stress before a formal credit event occurs.
Unlike traditional credit models, the new product has been calibrated using observed private credit performance data, enabling it to assess risks specific to the asset class.
It also separately estimates the probability of early-stage credit deterioration and more severe events, including missed payments.
The launch comes as Moody’s forecasts that private credit assets could approach $4tn by 2030, increasing demand for more consistent risk assessment and portfolio monitoring.
Allvue, whose technology is used by more than 1,000 private capital firms directly or through fund administrators, is contributing anonymised borrower performance data to the model.
The companies reportedly said the product would support investment selection, portfolio monitoring, manager evaluation and capital allocation, addressing transparency challenges in a market where publicly available ratings and pricing data remain limited.
