Alta Partners, a life sciences venture capital firm based in San Francisco, has promoted Robert Alexander to the position of director.
Alexander (pictured) currently represents Alta as a director on the boards of SARcode and Sonexa, two Alta Partners VIII portfolio companies. He joined Alta as a principal in 2005.
"Over the past four years at Alta, Robert has proven to be a valued member of our firm and we are pleased to announce his promotion to director. His broad knowledge of the biotechnology sector and expertise in identifying promising young companies have strengthened our team," says Guy Nohra, managing director at Alta Partners.
Prior to Alta, Alexander was a principal in MPM Capital’s BioEquities fund where he sourced opportunities and led due diligence efforts for both public and private investments. He joined MPM from Genentech where he worked in the business development group. Prior to joining Genentech, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University in the department of Pathology.
In addition, Adam Tomasi has been promoted to principal. Tomasi joined the firm as a Kauffman Fellow in 2006. Prior to joining Alta, he was a student in the Harvard-MIT Biomedical Enterprise Programme and held lead scientific positions in medicinal chemistry at Cytokinetics and Gilead Sciences.
