Abingworth, a specialist life sciences and health care investment group, has appointed Dr Andrew Sinclair as a London-based principal and analyst focusing on the evaluation of opportunities in quoted life sciences and health care companies, including open market and private transactions.

Sinclair has more than eight years experience as an analyst in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors. He joins Abingworth from HSBC Global Markets, where he was a director and senior equity analyst responsible for investment research in the mid-cap pharmaceutical sector. He was previously a biotechnology analyst at Credit Suisse and SG Cowen, having qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG.

‘Andrew’s experience will further strengthen Abingworth’s investments in public equities,’ says partner Joe Anderson. ‘This is a great time to be investing in small public life science companies as the credit crisis and recessionary pressures have depressed share prices to a level where market valuations can bear little resemblance to intrinsic value. Andrew’s skills will be very valuable as we seek out the strongest businesses in this sector.’

Founded in 1973, Abingworth invests at all stages of development including early and late-stage venture financing, growth equity and public companies. The firm has a specialist team of more than 20 professionals, more than USD1.25bn in funds under management and offices in London, Boston and Menlo Park, California.
