Cordillera Investment Partners (Cordillera), an investment management firm focusing on niche, non-correlated assets, has completed fundraising for its $62m Whiskey Opportunities Fund.
It is the firm’s first fund to exclusively focus on the buying and aging of whisky barrels as institutional assets.
According to a press statement, the fund aims to address the growing demand for premium whisky products by identifying a diverse portfolio of US and non-US whisky assets. Coined the ‘bourbon boom’, revenues in Bourbon and Tennessee whiskies grew 249% from 2003 to 2021, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States’ 2022 report on American whiskey.
The fund expands on an investment thesis that Cordillera began in 2019 through its second flagship fund. Its investor base is comprised of endowments and foundations, family offices, registered investment advisors and other institutional investors.
Ropes & Gray served as fund formation counsel. Cordillera did not engage a placement agent in connection with the formation of the fund.
