Cowen Group has appointed Julie Levenson as managing director and head of the private equity group.

Cowen Group has appointed Julie Levenson as managing director and head of the private equity group. She will be based in the firm’s San Francisco office and report to Jonathan Biele, head of the capital markets group.

Over 20 years in investment banking, Levenson has completed more than 75 financing transactions representing a financing volume of more than USD3.5bn for clients including Silicon Graphics, Leap Frog Enterprises, Procom Technology, and Aecom Technology.

‘Julie’s experience with complex private equity transactions, relationships with sophisticated investors and strong leadership ability, will enable her to make a significant contribution to Cowen as head of our private equity business,’ says Don Meltzer, Cowen’s head of investment banking.

Levenson joins Cowen from Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin, where she was a managing director leading the firm’s private equity and private investment in public equity business. Previously she worked in strategic finance at Bear Stearns following a spell with the west coast equity group at Merrill Lynch.

Through Cowen and Co and Cowen International, the New York-based group provides services including investment banking, incorporating underwriting and other capital raising, equity research, sales, trading and mergers and acquisitions advice to emerging growth companies in sectors such as healthcare, technology, telecommunications, consumer, aerospace and defence, and alternative energy.
