Private equity firm Crescent Asset Management has announced the appointment of Gilbert F Amelio, whose career in the technology industry includes a spell as chairman and chief executive of Apple Computer, to its board of directors.

Amelio’s career as a technology executive and a venture capitalist over three decades includes, apart from his spell with Apple, the positions of president, chief executive and chairman of National Semiconductor and president of Rockwell Communications Systems.

His current and past directorships include AT&T where he was lead director and chairman of the compensation committee, Georgia Tech and the American Film Institute.

He is the former director and chairman of the Semi Conductor Industry Association and serves as technology advisor to the Malaysia Multi Super Corridor and to the country’s prime minister.

Crescent principal and co-chairman Jack P Takacs says: ‘Gil’s reputation and prestige precedes him. He brings to Crescent a unique blend of corporate leadership and technological expertise that will be an invaluable resource on which to draw as we continue to grow the firm’s business throughout the world.

‘We look forward as well to using Crescent’s growing presence in the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe to further Gil’s efforts to increase investment in new technology around the world.’
