CDC Group, the UK’s development finance institution (DFI) and impact investor, has announced commitments totalling USD50.9 million to expand digital infrastructure, boost rural connectivity and accelerate digital technology access for rural and underserved communities across sub-Saharan Africa.  The capital will support the continued growth of the ICT sector in the continent, helping to boost development of necessary infrastructure and providing rural and underserved communities with access to affordable mobile connectivity.   The first investment is a USD40 million commitment to Convergence Partners Digital Infrastructure Fund (CPDIF), managed by Convergence Partners – a specialist Africa-focused ICT fund manager – supporting a
Blackstone’s wholly-owned portfolio company Transmission Developers Inc (TDI), has been selected by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), as part of an extensive RFP process, to deliver clean, renewable power to New York City. Over the past decade, TDI and Hydro-Quebec have worked in partnership to develop Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE), a fully permitted, underground electric transmission line spanning approximately 339 miles between Canada and New York City. Software platform, Hicomply, has secured a GBP3 million investment from growth capital investor, BGF.   The technology business enables SMEs to protect business data and effectively manage information security compliance against standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC. Audax Private Equity (Audax) has acquired a majority stake in GCX Mounting Solutions. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Based in Petaluma, California, GCX is special in the design and manufacturing of healthcare-focused, mission-critical equipment mounting and mobility solutions, including branded-arms, mounts, and roll stands. Products are engineered for reliability and quality and sold to medical device OEMs and directly to hospitals. Airwallex has raised USD200 million in an oversubscribed Series E financing round, increasing the company’s valuation to USD4 billion.  This latest investment follows an extended Series D capital raise earlier this year in March, cementing Airwallex’s position as one of the fastest growing unicorns amid an unprecedented business environment affected by Covid. “This latest round was led by Lone Pine Capital. White Oak Global Advisors (White Oak) has completed the acquisition of Finacity Corporation, a global specialist in working capital and trade finance funding solutions to global businesses.  Finacity originates, structures and places over USD100 billion in trade finance receivables yearly with over 50 leading financial institutions in asset-backed security structures. Finacity has facilitated transactions for receivables denominated in 58 currencies with obligors in more than 175 countries making it the largest non-bank trade finance platform globally. The deal will see Adrian Katz remain as Finacity CEO and substantive equity holder, working closely with the leadership of White Oak Global Advisors.
Searchlight Capital Partners (Searchlight), a global private investment firm, in partnership with asset manager British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), is making a strategic investment in Adams Outdoor Advertising (Adams). Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. Adams, founded in 1983 by Steve Adams, is the fourth largest, and largest privately-held, out of home media operator in the United States. Tiedemann Group (Tiedemann), Alvarium Investments Limited (Alvarium), and special acquisition company (SPAC) Cartesian Growth Corporation (Cartesian) jointly announced entry into a definitive business combination agreement.
Thomas H Lee Partners, a private equity firm investing in growth companies, is to acquire Brooks Automation’s (Brooks) Semiconductor Solutions Group business (or automation business) in a transaction valued at USD3 billion.  The transaction is expected to close in the first half of calendar year 2022 upon satisfaction of customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. This agreement will fulfil Brooks’ intention to separate its business into two independent companies, a highly innovative automation technology company with significant expertise in semiconductors and meaningful white space to expand into multi-market automation, and a pure play life sciences company, which will remain public
