Private equity firms invested in a record 566 companies in Central and Eastern Europe in 2020, as the industry supported dynamic SMEs and start-ups that will fuel the recovery from the impact of Covid-19 and underpin long-term economic and social development across the region. Invest Europe, the association representing Europe’s private equity, venture capital and infrastructure sectors, as well as their investors, today released its 2020 Central and Eastern Europe Private Equity Statistics. WeMaintain, a proptech company based in Paris and London, has raised EUR30 million in Series B funding.  The raise follows WeMaintain’s acquisition of fire alarm solutions company Shokly, and allows WeMaintain to accelerate its international expansion and extend its state-of-the-art proprietary technology across the built environment. Supported by Eurazeo since its Series A round in 2019, WeMaintain raises its Series B with Red River West, BPIFrance Digital Ventures, and Swiss Immo Lab. Marstone, a digital wealth technology firm, has held the second close of a USD5 million Series A financing round bringing the company’s total funding to over USD20 million.  The first close, led by Apex Fintech Solutions LLC, the “fintech for fintechs” powering innovation and the future of digital wealth management, was completed in May 2020, with Amerant Bancorp Inc. EQT’s EQT IX fund (EQT Private Equity) has agreed to acquire PRO Unlimited Global Solutions Inc (PRO Unlimited), a specialist in contingent workforce management solutions, from funds managed by Harvest Partners, LP and its affiliates (Harvest Partners) and Investcorp.  Following the close of the transaction, EQT Private Equity will be the majority shareholder and the existing PRO Unlimited management team will continue to operate the business.   PRO Unlimited was established in 1991 to assist large companies in managing their contingent workforce to better attract specialist talent seeking a more flexible work solution. Columbia Pacific Business Finance (CPBF), a fully capitalised fund providing direct financing to emerging growth and middle market companies, has provided a USD9.5 million term loan to CGL Holdings, owner of Chicago Grade Landfill in San Luis Obispo County, California. Causeway, a provider of enterprise and cloud software solutions to the construction and infrastructure maintenance industries, has secured a GBP120 million investment to fund strategic acquisitions and accelerate its organic growth strategy to digitally connect the construction supply chain through further development of its cloud platform. Exeter Finance LLC, an indirect auto finance company, has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by an investor group led by Warburg Pincus from funds managed by Blackstone. CVC Capital Partners VIII has agreed to acquire a majority interest in Rayner, the global ophthalmology business from Phoenix Equity Partners, the UK growth-focused private equity firm, for an undisclosed amount.  Rayner is a manufacturer and developer of innovative intraocular lenses (IOLs) and associated pharmaceuticals. The Company’s products deliver sight-restorative implants and treatments to patients during cataract and refractive surgeries. Turquoise, the UK merchant bank specialising in energy, environment and efficiency, has invested in Ablatus Therapeutics for the Low Carbon Innovation Fund 2 (LCIF2). The investment of GBP85,000 is part of an overall round which could reach GBP1.5 million.
