StarCompliance (Star), a provider of employee compliance and regulatory technology solutions to the financial services industry, has secured a majority-control, growth equity investment from Marlin Equity Partners (Marlin).  The transaction enables Star to further expand its leadership position within the global compliance market by accelerating product innovation and supporting the company’s ongoing international expansion. Paxos, a regulated blockchain infrastructure platform, has closed a USD142 million Series C round of funding.  Declaration Partners, the investment firm backed by the family office of David M Rubenstein, led the round, which includes investments from Mithril Capital, PayPal Ventures, RIT Capital Partners plc, Ken Moelis, Alua Capital, Senator Investment Group and more. Previous Paxos investors also participated in the round, including RRE Ventures and Liberty City Ventures. Odyssey Investment Partners (Odyssey) is to acquire Protective Industrial Products Inc (PIP), a global supplier of personal protective equipment (PPE) and industrial safety products, from Audax Private Equity.  Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. PIP, founded in 1984, offers a broad suite of the most recognised PPE products and brands across numerous segments, including hand & arm protection, protective clothing, head protection, eye & hearing protection, and other safety protection. Levine Leichtman Capital Partners (LLCP), a Los Angeles-based private equity firm, has sold its portfolio company Safety Products Holdings, LLC, the parent company of Pacific Handy Cutter (PHC), to Bertram Capital. PHC is the leading supplier of specialised safety cutting tools and replacement blades to a diverse range of end markets. The Company is a recognised leader in the industrial safety market for standardising the method of opening packaging and providing products that are engineered to eliminate workplace injuries, reduce damaged merchandise and improve employee productivity. European software investor Hg has made an investment in Geomatikk Group (Geomatikk), a tech-enabled services provider, managing critical ‘check-before-you-dig’ safety assessments to network owners, contractors and consulting engineers within Norway, Sweden and Finland.  Hg will support Geomatikk with its extensive experience in scaling tech champions across Europe. Hg will become the majority investor, with founders and management remaining as significant investors in the business. Gryphon Investors (Gryphon), a middle-market private equity firm based in San Francisco, CA, has acquired Physical Rehabilitation Network (PRN) from Silver Oak Services Partners (Silver Oak).  Silver Oak will make an investment in the newly recapitalised company, and PRN’s management team will remain with the Company and retain an equity stake as well. This transaction marks Gryphon’s third investment in the physical therapy category after successful earlier investments in Accelerated Rehabilitation and CORA Physical Therapy. Eurazeo Capital has completed its investment in Questel alongside IK Investment Partners, Raise Investissement and the management team. The transaction involved the purchase of 100 per cent of Questel’s capital. Questel is a major intellectual property solutions provider that operates worldwide and employs 900 people in 30 countries, developing SaaS products and an automated brand services and patent filing platform. The company works with close to 6,000 clients, including a number of large multinationals, offering end-to-end collaborative patent and brand management solutions across the innovation and intellectual property cycle, from invention through to filing and renewal.   Questel’s enterprise value
Avista Capital Partners (Avista), a private equity firm focused exclusively on healthcare, is to acquire Solmetex, a provider of amalgam separators and other waste compliance products to the US and Canadian dental industries. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed. 3d innovations (3di), a data management solutions company, has acquired Charlotte-based Investment Data Licensing Advisors (IDLA), a market and investment data licensing advisory firm serving the US market.  The acquisition follows demand from investment firms and market data vendors for more bespoke and creative solutions that leverage best practices when managing data selection, usage risk and costs, and sees the firm expanding its global reach. TA Associates has completed an investment in leading pet food marketer and manufacturer, Mid America Pet Food, manufacturer of VICTOR Super Premium Pet Food.  Joining TA as an investor is Rx3 Growth Partners, a growth equity fund founded by Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  TA and Rx3 acquired their stakes in the company from Trinity Hunt Partners, a growth-oriented middle-market private equity firm that invested in Mid America Pet Food in 2014.
