Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners’ Winch Capital 2 fund has taken a minority stake in MCI, joining existing investor Iris Capital, which invested in MCI in 2010, in backing the professional congress and conference organiser (PCO).
MCI has a strong presence in the pharmaceutical sector. Almost 100 senior executives and managers own shares.
The group’s management team (Roger Tondeur, Sébastien Tondeur, Jurriaen Sleijster and Robin Lokerman) aims to accelerate MCI’s international development by maintaining a strong acquisitions drive.
François-Xavier Mauron and Sophie Nordmann-Caetano, investment directors at Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, says: "We are delighted to help MCI and its senior management with the next leg of the group’s development. This is the WINCH Capital 2 fund’s 14th deal and it will help the MCI group accelerate deployment of its international network in line with Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners’ core investment strategy of acting as a minority partner for entrepreneurs looking to finance strong organic and external growth both in Europe and beyond."
Under the leadership of Roger Tondeur, MCI’s founding chairman and biggest shareholder, the group has seen impressive growth since it was set up in 1987 in Geneva, combining organic growth with close to 30 acquisitions. The group has doubled in size since 2008.
