The developer of a unique disposable tourniquet, ASep Healthcare, has secured a GBP120,000 investment from The North West Fund for Biomedical, managed by SPARK Impact. ASep Healthcare, currently based in South Kensington, London, but due to move to Liverpool Science Park, developed an award winning disposable tourniquet designed to prevent cross infection between patients. The company was previously backed by Imperial Innovations, which builds and invests in promising technology and healthcare companies. The North West Fund for Biomedical is part of the wider GBP155m North West Fund, financed jointly by the European Regional Development Fund and the European Investment Bank.

CIS was established by HIG in partnership with veteran behavioural healthcare executive Kevin Sheehan to acquire, develop and operate a national network of community-based mental health and substance abuse treatment programmes. Activa Capital has sold its portfolio company Logitrade to a group of regional financial investors – Soridec, Sofilaro, Sofipac, Multicroissance and Sopromec – in partnership with Logitrade’s management team. Activa Capital became the majority shareholder of Logitrade in 2006. Logitrade is an outsourcing company focused on non-strategic industrial purchasing in France.   Under Activa Capital’s ownership, Logitrade experienced a growth in its turnover from EUR85m in 2006 to EUR140m in 2012. In the recent years, the company has also strengthened its international presence, accompanying its large industrial customers outside France.

The offshore markets experienced their largest quarter-to-quarter rise in M&A transactions in the last three years in quarter four 2012, according to a report by Appleby. The latest edition of Offshore-i, the firm’s quarterly report which provides data and insight on merger and acquisition activity in major offshore financial centres, focuses on the last three months of 2012 while providing a review of the year as a whole and predictions for 2013. LINC Scotland members invested GBP13.76m into Scottish early-stage companies in 2012 – a 13 per cent increase in investment on the previous year. Figures published by LINC Scotland, the national association for business angels in Scotland, show that the amount invested in new companies increased by 54 per cent last year, its members and other private investors completed 82 investments (up five per cent), and helped 59 companies (also up five per cent).  Of these over a third were new to the portfolio, up from less than a quarter in 2011.   Although the total value of investment raised was

Osprey Capital, the venture capital firm, has exited its first investment following the sale of Allium Capital, with a return of 11.9x capital for investors. The investment in Allium Capital, a specialist advisory firm which creates and distributes retail financial services products, was made four years ago. NBGI Private Equity, investor in Aberdeen-based ATR Group, has acquired the Aberdeen and Norway operations of Cosalt Offshore. This will bring together Cosalt’s technical leadership in offshore lifting, combined with its offshore inspection, testing and safety service with ATR’s global equipment rental service offering to the offshore maintenance sector. The deal will stabilise the Cosalt business, which has been through a difficult period in recent years, safeguard jobs and provide funding to capitalise on international growth opportunities.
