The Cambridge Associates Australia Private Equity and Venture Capital Index rose by 2.90 per cent in the third quarter of 2012, according to the latest quarterly report released by The Australian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCAL).
For the 12 months ending 30 September 2012, the C|A Australia Index rose by 6.44 per cent. Over the same period, the S&P/ASX 300 Index surged to record a return of 14.46 per cent.

Carrick Capital Partners is to invest USD28m in Axiom, a 1,000 person new model firm that helps general counsel manage their workload more effectively.
This announcement marks Carrick’s first deal since closing the firm’s first fund in November 2012.

Social marketing software provider Spredfast has raised USD18m in venture capital, led by OpenView Venture Partners with follow-on investment participation from existing investors Austin Ventures and InterWest Partners.
The funding comes as Spredfast reports 400 per cent revenue growth and a doubling in employee headcount in 2012. The company plans to use the capital to fuel continued investment in its technology platform and to grow the team to support increased adoption of its social marketing platform.

Panattoni Europe has disposed of two portfolios of logistics assets located in Poland, totalling 402,000 sq m of space, to affiliates of LogiCor, the pan-European logistics platform established by real estate funds managed by affiliates of The Blackstone Group.

A private equity fund managed by Blackstone on behalf of its private equity investors has acquired a controlling interest in two Maldives-based seaplane operators – Maldivian Air Taxi (MAT) and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).
Following the transaction, Lars Erik Nielsen (founder of MAT), Lars Petré and Hussain Afeef (majority shareholders of TMA) will retain a substantial shareholding and continue to play a significant role in the companies, including serving as directors on the board. The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
