Veggie Grill, a West Coast restaurant concept known for plant-based food, has completed its fourth round of equity funding with an investment from Brentwood Associates. Avillion has received initial funding from Abingworth and Clarus Ventures. Avillion, based in London, UK, is partnering with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to co-develop and finance late stage therapeutics. The company will use its clinical development and regulatory expertise to obtain global approvals for a broad range of drugs and biologics. Investment into European companies continued its year-over-year decline during a weak fourth quarter of 2012, as Europe-based companies raised EUR967m from 233 venture capital deals, according to Dow Jones VentureSource. Smedvig Capital, the London-based venture capital firm, has sold Swedish self storage company Selstor to Pelican Self Storage, another significant self storage player, operating in Copenhagen and Helsinki. Established in 2009, Pelican Self Storage is focused on the development, redevelopment, acquisition and operation of self storage facilities in Scandinavia.   Selstor was founded in 2006 by Michael Fogelberg to take advantage of the under-penetrated Swedish self storage market. Palatine Private Equity and Beechbrook Capital have backed the management of Selection Services, an IT managed service provider, in the acquisition of Aggregated Telecom, which trades as 8el.  This is the first of what is set to be several acquisitions this year. The acquisition will significantly increase Selection’s service capabilities, adding networking, connectivity, voice and hosted telephony.   The combination of Bromley-based Selection Services and 8el creates a business with nearly 400 employees and revenues of GBP37m. It represents a major step towards the business offering a full suite of IT services to its target SME and mid-market audience.  
Kidd & Company (KCO), a private investment firm focused on the middle market, has teamed up with Centerfield Capital Partners to acquire Imaginetics, a manufacturer of precision metal components and assemblies for the aerospace industry. Located in Auburn, Washington, Imaginetics has begun to benefit from substantial growing demand in the airframe and aerostructures supply chain, as original equipment manufacturers struggle to secure capacity to allow them to meet aircraft delivery forecasts.  The company’s current customer base includes Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Boeing Defense Services, Hexcel Corporation, Spirit Aerosystems, and Zodiac Aerospace, among others. Larsen MacColl Partners (LMP), a private equity fund based in Radnor, Pennsylvania, has sold a majority stake in its portfolio company, S&S Worldwide, to Sansei Yusoki (SY). LMP made its original investment in S&S in 2009 and supported S&S’s subsequent growth with additional financial resources and strategic guidance as S&S rapidly expanded its customer base and product offering in Europe and Asia. Sansei Yusoki is an Osaka Stock Exchange-listed company operating globally across the elevation equipment, stage equipment and amusement ride sectors. The North West Fund for Digital & Creative, managed by AXM Venture Capital, has made an equity investment of GBP150,000 into Liverpool-based Med ePad, alongside a personal investment from new management. A sister fund, The North West Fund for Biomedical managed by Spark Impact, had previously backed the company, and AXM and Spark will-co-manage the investment. The North West Fund for Digital & Creative is part of The North West Fund and is financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the European Investment Bank.
