Commonfund Capital has closed its third dedicated private equity co-investment fund, Commonfund Capital Co-investment Opportunities III, LP, at USD160 million, above its USD150 million target.
The fund had strong participation from existing investors as well as a number of new institutional limited partners including foundations, endowments, family offices and sophisticated clients of registered investment advisors and consultants.
Commonfund Capital has invested in select co-investments alongside high conviction managers and sponsors since 1997 with aggregate committed capital of over USD1 billion. It has invested through both its commingled portfolios as well as through its dedicated co-investment partnerships.

Hedge funds and private equity are both improving their transparency over ESG. However, while on the private equity side, ESG is more seen as an investment opportunity, complexities remain on the hedge fund side around issues of reporting and shorting, according to Cambridge Associates.
Trudi Boardman, Hedge Fund Specialist at Cambridge Associate said that many hedge funds are still in the earlier stages of introducing ESG policies and processes, and that “there’s still a long way to go.”

Monroe Capital (Monroe) has acted as sole lead arranger and administrative agent on the funding of a senior credit facility to support the acquisition of Liberty Safe Holding Corporation (Liberty Safe) by private equity sponsor Monomoy Capital Partners.

Janus Continental Group (JCG), a conglomerate with businesses in the Energy, Hospitality and Real Estate sectors across three continents, has made a significant further investment in Highview Power, developer of liquid air long duration energy storage plants based on its proprietary cryogenic energy storage technology.
JCG completed a call option on a previous investment made in early 2021, which increases JCG’s investment in Highview Power to more than GBP20 million.

Start-ups in the UK raised the highest venture capital (VC) funding amount among all the European countries during January to July 2021. A total of 1,110 VC funding deals were announced in the UK during the period, while the disclosed funding value of these deals stood at USD16.4 billion, according to GlobalData.
Deal activity in the UK has remained inconsistent throughout 2021, with some months experiencing decline in deal volume and value. In fact, July 2021 registered decline in both deal volume and value.
