Ironwood Capital has made an investment in Cox Transportation Services (Cox), a provider of truckload freight services. The majority recapitalisation was led by Expedition Capital Partners and Tecum Capital, with a subordinated debt and equity investment provided by Ironwood Capital. Pacer Ventures, a venture firm for sub-Saharan Africa, has launched a USD3 million fund for early-stage startups, aimed at solving the most critical problems on the continent. Registered in Delaware, with operational offices in Lagos and Johannesburg, Pacer VC is focusing on verticals that are expedient to the African continent, including healthcare, financial inclusion, education and agriculture. Israeli VC firm Peregrine Ventures has launched its fifth fund and first growth fund, Peregrine Growth, focused on late stage life science companies that are on the verge of an IPO or M&A deal. Alternative investment firm Värde Partners has held a final close of The Värde Dislocation Fund with more than USD1.6 billion of commitments. Raised entirely with no in-person meetings, 55 per cent of commitments to the fund come from new investors. “The strong demand for this strategy from a diverse, global investor base underscores expectations for a deep credit cycle,” said president Jon Fox. “We took innovative steps to engage investors through virtual platforms and were able to exceed our target in just five months.” The fund will invest in opportunities presented by the market dislocations and economic disruption following the pandemic.
Dyal Capital Partners (Dyal), a division of Neuberger Berman, has acquired a passive minority stake in TowerBrook Capital Partners (TowerBrook), a London and New York-based international investment firm. Dyal’s investment into TowerBrook’s management company will provide additional balance sheet capital, enabling TowerBrook to increase its commitment to its funds under management, strengthen the foundations of the firm and further pursue its successful investment strategy.   Dyal’s investment builds on the successful 2015 investment by Wafra Strategic Investors, which will remain a minority investor alongside Dyal.
