Goldman Sachs Group has boosted its latest push into providing private debt facilities for blue-chip companies with the appointment of James Keller, a senior banker from HSBC Holdings, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The report cites a spokesman for the bank as confirming that Keller, who was previously Head of Private Placements at HSBC in New York, is set to join Goldman in early December as a Vice President in its structured finance division.
Madelaine O’Connell runs the private placements team at Goldman Sachs, which is one of the leading arrangers globally. The instruments are typically used by high grade companies to directly tap institutional investors for private debt funding, and are becoming an increasingly competitive alternative to publicly-traded high-grade bond markets. Legal & General Investment Management estimates yearly global issuance at £150bn ($183bn).
