Hunter Point Capital appoints MD

Hunter Point Capital (HPC), an independent investment firm focused on taking minority stakes in middle-market alternative asset managers, has appointed Melvin Hibberd as a Managing Director to lead the firm’s investment team.

Based in New York, Hibberd will be responsible for HPC’s investment processes and transaction execution. Hibberd joins from The Blackstone Group after a seven-year tenure and brings extensive investment experience to the firm. Most recently, he was a Managing Director and a Member of the Investment Committee in their GP Stakes business.

“Melvin’s appointment is the latest in a series of key strategic hires for the firm following a period of rapid growth since we launched Hunter Point Capital last year,” says Avi Kalichstein, CEO of Hunter Point Capital. “Our goal is to help our GP partners achieve their long-term business objectives. Melvin’s experience in investing and involvement in significant deals during the last few years aligns well with HPC’s mission.”

Hibberd adds: “Hunter Point Capital’s ability to make long-term investments in the next generation of premier GPs and to create value for managers is unmatched in the current market. I am thrilled to join such a skilled team of investment professionals and business builders, focusing my expertise on developing strategic partnerships in the middle market.”

Prior to Blackstone, Hibberd was an Associate at KKR & Co, as well as an Associate at Goldman Sachs. He received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 2011 and holds a degree from Cambridge University in Engineering. Hibberd will begin his role at HPC in January 2022.
