Institutional Limited Partners Association appoints new chairman

The Institutional Limited Partners Association has appointed Timothy Recker of the University of California Regents as chairman.

Recker is responsible for the University of California Regents private equity programme with over USD5bn in assets under management.

Prior to joining the UC in 2007, Recker was director of alternative investments for the Michigan Retirement System where he oversaw a USD13bn portfolio of private equity, hedge funds and structured products.

In addition to Recker, the board has appointed John Breen (vice president – head of funds & secondaries, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board) to vice chair; Jim Pittman (vice president – private equity, PSP Investments) to treasurer; Dhvani Shah, (managing director of private equity, New York State Teachers’ Retirement System) to chair, education committee; and Michael Mazzola (director – head of alternative investments, MetLife) to chair, research, benchmarking and standards committee.

Also new to the board this year are Jesus Arguelle, portfolio manager, Calpers; Anja Bach Eriksson, senior portfolio manager, Sampension; and Robert van Schaik, head of private equity and infrastructure, Mn Services.

"Tim has a long-established reputation in private equity and will bring strong vision and corporate governance to ILPA’s growing global presence," says Joncarlo Mark, senior portfolio manager at Calpers in the Alternative Investment Management Program and outgoing chair. "He has been actively involved with the organisation for the past four years as board secretary and most recently vice chair. His background and experience with private equity investing and his inclination to promote sharing of knowledge within the asset class, makes him a natural fit for this role."

"The ILPA has experienced tremendous success over the last four years under the direction of the board and its professional management team," says Recker. "We are well positioned to build on our momentum with a goal to be a strong industry partner for investors and managers globally."

The Institutional Limited Partners Association is a not-for-profit association committed to serving limited partners investors in the global private equity industry by facilitating communication and education and promoting research and standards in the private equity industry.
